Driver Arrested for DUI After Bicyclist Hit in Smithfield

Smithfield Police have arrested a suspect for an incident in which a bicyclist was hit and injured.

According to police, at approximately 8:35 PM on September 29, officers responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a bicyclist at 135 Pleasant View Avenue. 

The bicyclist was critically injured and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Smithfield Police Officers took the operator, Lance Nicoletti, 38 years old of Greenville into custody. 

He was charged with DUI Liquor or Drugs-Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (RIGL 31-27-2.6) and Driving to Endanger-Resulting in Personal Injury (RIGL 31-27-1.1). 

He will be arraigned Monday morning in Kent County District Court.
