Police Make Arrests in Shooting of 7-Year-Old in Providence

Providence Police have two suspects in custody in the shooting of a child in the city, GoLocal has learned. 

As GoLocal reported, a 7-year-old girl was shot in Olneyville on Thursday evening. 

The incident occurred on Florence Street; the victim has undergone surgery at Hasbro Children’s Hospital where she is in critical condition.

On Friday, police identified the suspects arrested as 19-year-old Ahmari Cabrera and 26-year-old Shaheem Nathaniel.

According to police, they are facing "felony assault and various firearm charges."

 

Latest in Providence 

It marks the latest violence in Providence after a 20-year-old was also shot on Thursday; an 18-year-old was shot and killed in the city on Sunday.

On Friday morning, after repeated requests for comment, Mayor Brett Smiley issued a statement on the multiple instances of gun violence in the city over a five-day period; a man was injured hours later in an incident involving a gun on Elmwood Avenue.
