NEW: Providence Police Charge Suspect in Homicide

Providence Police announced Friday afternoon that they have made an arrest in the shooting death of a woman in the city. 

Officers had responded to a report of a shooting at 1003 Broad Street shortly before 5 PM on Thursday and said they located an adult female with a gunshot wound to the head.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene; police released her identity on Friday.

Suspect and Charges

Police say that as part of this investigation, Kelvin Mendez Cruz, age 26, of Providence has been charged with one count of RIGL 11-23-1/12-29-5 Domestic – Murder and one count of RIGL 11-47-3.2(b)(4) Using a firearm when committing a crime of violence – death resulting.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon in Providence District Court.
