NEW: Some Voting Areas Up 400% for Rhode Island Presidential Primary

Initial numbers are in, and voting turnout is up as much as 400% over the last presidential primary in Rhode Island in some areas.

“We had 901 by 10 a.m and we’re expecting another update mid-afternoon,” said Linda Fontaine with the Woonsocket Board of Canvassers. “This is a lot heavier than the last primary -- it was 100 something by that time.”

State Representative Joe Shekarchi reported “heavy turnout” in Warwick.
