A Providence police officer was hit when a vehicle fled a traffic stop outside a nightclub in the city overnight.

Earlier this week, New England Patriots Christian Barmore called Providence Police “racist” during a traffic stop in which he was found to be operating an unregistered vehicle.

He deleted his social media post after police body camera footage was released; the police union is demanding an apology.

Shortly after midnight Saturday morning, police on patrol outside of Lovera VIP nightclub on Broad Street said they observed a vehicle in an illegal parking space.

Police said they approached the vehicle with Massachusetts plates and made contact with the driver.

According to police, as an officer stood next to the vehicle, the driver then accelerated and fled the scene.

The officer was reportedly struck in the arm by the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle could be seen driving recklessly down Broad Street endangering drivers and pedestrians.

According to police, the vehicle information was broadcast to law enforcement across multiple states, and the suspect remains at large.
