RI State Police Investigate a Tractor-Trailer Rollover on Route 95

On Monday at 2:38 AM, Rhode Island State Police responded to a crash involving a tractor-trailer that had rolled over on Route 95 North in Providence. 

 

The initial investigation revealed that the tractor-trailer operator, a 65-year-old man from Cumberland, was traveling north when he struck the barrier separating Route 95 from the access road to Smithfield Avenue. The tractor-trailer, registered to AGP Construction in Johnston, RI, carried 18 compacted and crushed cars for scrap metal when it rolled over.

The 18 cars, weighing between 2000 to 3000 pounds each, spilled onto both Route 95 North and the access road for Smithfield Avenue. 

 

Members of the Rhode Island State Police Commercial Enforcement Unit, DEM Hazard Specialists, and RIDOT responded to assist with the investigation and the cleanup of the highway. 

 

The operator of the tractor-trailer, who was uninjured, received several moving violations as a result of the investigation.

 

All lanes of Route 95 and the access road for Smithfield Avenue were reopened at 7:53 AM.
