Police say that initial investigation shows that 32 year old Jessel Guzman Luna had been operating her Volvo SUV in the right, southbound lane of Post Road and came to a stop at a red light in the area of Fire Station 2, while a Honda Civic operated by 24 year old Joseph Kemley and his passenger had also been traveling Post Road southbound and came to a stop directly behind the Volvo.

As the light turned green and the vehicles proceeded, a Hyundai Kona operated by 61 year old Michael Perry of Cranston crossed left of center from the northbound lane, striking the Volvo head-on, forcing that Volvo into the Honda behind it, said police.

Michael Perry, the operator of the Hyundai, was pronounced deceased at Rhode Island Hospital at 2:37 PM.

The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is currently investigating the cause of the crash, including the possibility of a medical episode preceding the collision.

According to police, speed could not be immediately determined.
