Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Warwick

Warwick Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal hit-and-run that occurred in the city last weekend. 

On Sunday, officers responded to the area of 709 Quake Lane shortly before 10 PM for the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. 

Nicholas Cote, who police said was walking on the side of the road, had initially been struck by a vehicle. The operator, Logan Barboza, stopped and went to help; at which time both individuals were struck by a "dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee."

Cote died; Barboza was hospitalized with major injuries.  The vehicle did not stop.

 

Arrest Made

On Thursday, members of the Warwick Police Department, assisted by North Kingstown Police, arrested 24-year-old Dannys L. De Jesus Marcano at his North Kingstown home after Warwick.

Detectives said they located the vehicle that was involved in the incident.  

De Jesus Mercano has been charged with one count of duty to stop in accidents resulting in death, and one count of duty to stop in accidents resulting in serious bodily injury, and is being held for arraignment, which will be at the Noel Judicial Complex, 222 Quaker Lane at 9:00 AM.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to Nicholas Cote’s family, as well as our wishes for a strong recovery to Logan Barboza," said Warwick Police. "And a special 'thank you' to everyone who contributed to the speedy closure of this investigation."
