Woman Shot in Chad Brown, Armed Robbery With Submachine Gun Reported Off Thayer Street Over Weekend

Providence police responded over the weekend to a report of a woman shot in Chad Brown -- as well as an armed robbery off Thayer Street, where the victim stated one of the assailants had a submachine gun.

There were also multiple reports of shots fired throughout the city on Friday night and Saturday.

On Saturday morning shortly before 3:00 a.m, police responded to an “uncooperative” female shooting victim at Roger Williams Hospital. 

The victim told police she was driving home from work with her unidentified boyfriend. As she was driving through Chad Browm, the victim told police she was shot.

After she was shot she drove herself to Roger Williams Hospital and walked herself in, and told police that her boyfriend drove the car away from the hospital moments later. When asked where the vehicle was she stated "go find my boyfriend." She refused to provide Police with any further information. 

Police observed one apparent gunshot wound to the center of her chest/ torso area.

Angell and Thayer Street

On Friday at approximately 11:20 PM, police were dispatched to the location of [the former] Shiru Cafe at 165 Angell Street off of Thayer Street for a report of a robbery. 

Upon arrival, police met with the victim was said he was walking from the rear of Shiru Cafe towards Angell Street, when two men wearing all black, one with a black hoodie over his head and another with a black and red hoodie, walked towards him and both suspects brandished a firearm. 

The victim gave police a description of the firearms, one firearm was a Black and Silver Smith and Wesson pistol and the other described as a Black Mp5 submachine gun.

The victim said the suspects pointed and placed the firearms on his chest while stating "empty your pockets". The victim said he complied by removing his IPhone XR and an unknown amount of cash from his pockets, while one of the subjects removed his gray and black backpack containing his US passport and $200. 

The victim said both subjects fled on foot towards the rear of Shiru Cafe. Police canvased the area to no avail.

Reports of Shots Fired - Weapons Recovered

* Police were dispatched to the area of 71 General Street on Friday at 10:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival police were flagged down by several subjects stating they heard approximately 3-5 gun shots in the area. Police canvased the area and located two spent .40 caliber shell casings in the street in front of 71 General Street.

* On Saturday at 12:40 a.m., police responded to 94 West Clifford Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival Police spoke with a woman who stated to Police that she was parked in front of her home, when a car drove up West Clifford Street firing 5-6 rounds directly at her vehicle. That black sedan then continued to drive slowly up West Clifford Street and took a left onto Portland Street. Police canvased the area and were unable to locate any shell casings. Police observed 1 round hit the hood of the woman’s vehicle on the passenger side. Police noted the woman said she was sitting in her vehicle at the time of the incident.

* At 03:40 a.m. on Saturday, a patrolman was in the area of June and Donelson street investigating a call for shots fired. While near the intersection of Donelson and June, the patrolman observed several officers pull into the parking lot near June and Berkshire, ant which time the patrolman observed from a distance a subject in all black fleeing on foot behind 64 June Street.
Police made their way to the tennis courts in Chad Brown but were unable to determine a direction the subject fled. Police then began searching the area for the subject or if any weapons had been discarded at which time p0olice located under a small tree two firearms that appeared to have been recently discarded.

The weapons are described as the following.

1) Ruger P89 9mm bronze colored slide with black handle -- 1 live round in the chamber 9 live rounds in the magazine.

2) Kel Tec P-32  .32 caliber all black 7 live rounds in the magazine.

Both firearms were run and both were negative; police cleared both firearms and deemed them safe.

The firearms were placed in weapons boxes and transported to C/S where they were placed into Property.
