PAGE 10 Providence Restaurateur Tells How His Place Was Shot Up For Not Accepting Patriarca as a 50% Partner for His Gambling

In a 1961, report by the FBI, an informant, “…after the informant met REDACTED the latter showed the informant around his restaurant located in Providence, R.I. and pointed out bullet holes in various locations with the restaurant. REDACTED explained that in 1940 a bunch of hoodlums had come into the restaurant and after pulling the telephone wires from the connections shot up the place. The same hoodlums were suppose to have stuck up one of REDACTED runners who was engaged in furtherance of REDACTED gambling operations.

Although REDACTED did not advise as to who or what gang had shot up his restaurant, the informant later learned from REDACTED that Raymond Patriarca and his boys had done the damage to REDACTED as the latter had refused to accept Patriarca as a partner in REDACTED gambling operations.

The informant learned that REDACTED, in order to keep the peace, was obliged to accept Patriarca and since that time Patriarca has been receiving 50 percent of REDACTED’s net profits.”
