Brown Grad Develin's 2 Touchdowns Lead Patriots Past Vikings 24-10

James Develin
Brown University graduate James Develin rushed for two touchdowns to lead the New England Patriots beat the Minnesota Vikings 24-10 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday night.

The two touchdowns give Develin three on the season after having just two touchdowns in his first 76 games.

“It was awesome, though I really have to give all the props to the offensive line. All I did was get the ball and follow those guys and fall forward. They did a really awesome job all game, they were paving open holes all game. Those guys are a bunch of dogs, and I’m blessed to work with them," said Develin after the game.

Develin finished the game with four carries for five yards and one catch for nine yards.

The win improves the Patriots to 9-3 on the season, while Minnesota falls to 6-5-1.

One of the subplots to the game was an incident between the Patriots' Head Coach and the Viking's receiver.

Bill Belichick and Adam Thielen got into a heated argument on the sideline during the fourth quarter.

It came as Belichick was preparing to challenge a Vikings first down call on fourth down, and included some very strong swears by both of them. Tom E. Curran Tweeted, "Belichick with a very clear "shut the f*** up" to Thielen who was over at Pats sideline grousing before the challenge."

Develin Leads Patriots to Win

In the Patriots first offensive possession of the game, Develin capped off an eight play, 81-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give New England a 7-0 lead following a Stephen Gostkowski extra point.

The Patriots would go up 10-0 in the second quarter before the Vikings would score ten straight points to tie the game on a Dan Bailey 39-yard field goal in the third quarter.

With the game tied at 10, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady connected with Josh Gordon on a 24-yard touchdown pass to give New England the lead back, 17-10, with 35 seconds left in the third quarter.

Gordon finished the game with three catches for 58 yards, all of which came late in the third quarter and into the fourth.

"You know, I just had to be patient. I think that's just how the flow of the game was going. We all let it play itself out. It was great to just get an opportunity, make a play and the rest of it was just fun," said Gordon after the game.

After getting a defensive stop in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, the Patriots would add to their lead.

Following a six play, 50-yard drive, Brady would again hand the ball to Develin who would run it in from two yards out to give the Patriots a commanding 24-10 lead.

After the Vikings failed to convert on 4th and 11 from the Patriots 48 yard line, New England would give Minnesota the ball right back when Brady’s pass to Julian Edelman was picked off.

However, Minnesota would return the favor on their ensuing possession when Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins pass to the end zone was picked off by Duran Harmon.

The Vikings would not threaten the rest of the game.

With 30 seconds left, Cousins’ pass to Thielen was picked off by Jonathan Jones to seal the win.

Brady finished the game completing 24 passes for 311 yards and one touchdown, as well as, an interception.

James White led all receivers with seven catches for 92 yards.
