The New England Patriots ran for 216 yards en route to a 27-13 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey.

Rookie running back Sony Michel led the way with 21 carries for 133 yards and a touchdown.

“Coach kind of gave us a challenge this week, being able to run the football and I think the offensive line did a great job, receivers, everyone just collectively as a group did a good job to achieve that goal,” said Michel after the game.

Michel’s 133 rushing yards are the most by a Patriots player since Jonas Gray had 201 rushing yards in 2014 against the Colts.

It is also the first time the Patriots have been over 200 yards rushing as a team since that game.

The win improves New England to 8-3 overall, while the Jets drop to 3-8.

Patriots Run Past Jets in 2nd Half

With the game tied at 13, with four minutes left in the third quarter, Tom Brady connected with Julian Edelman on a 21-yard touchdown pass give New England a 20-13 lead following a Gostkowski extra point.

The drive was sparked by a 27-yard catch by Chris Hogan and then a 27-yard run by James White that set New England up inside the Jets 30-yard line.

New England would put the game away in the fourth quarter when Sony Michel capped off a 10 play, 80-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to put the Patriots up 27-13 with 8:54 to go.

Brady finished the game completing 20 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns.

He passed Payton Manning for the most total passing yards in NFL history (regular and postseason).

Sloppy Early

Prior to the second half scoring outburst, the Patriots were sloppy early in the game.

They were forced to settle for field goals in part because of penalties that stopped drives.

In the game, New England was penalized 11 times for 105 yards, stalling the offense and costing the defense.
