The Ivy League is canceling it’s men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and limiting spectators at all sporting events due to the outbreak of coronavirus across the country.

“We understand and share the disappointment with student-athletes, coaches and fans who will not be able to participate in these tournaments. Regrettably, the information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision,” said Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris in a statement.

Instead, the league’s regular-season champions, Princeton women and Yale men, will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Tournaments.

According to the Ivy League, all tickets for the respective basketball tournaments will be refunded in full.

Ticket holders with questions are asked to contact the Harvard ticket office.

Spectator Limits Put in Place

Along with canceling the basketball tournaments, the Ivy League has also announced that they are implementing highly-restrictive, in-venue spectator limitations for all other upcoming campus athletics events.

“Following a number of league-wide discussions throughout the last several weeks, we have decided to exercise caution in the interest of student-athletes, fans, and the general community,” added Harris.

The League is also canceling all out-of-season practices and competitions.
