Brown's Cambridge Named Ivy League Rookie of Year

Brown basketball star freshman Desmond Cambridge has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year following a unanimous vote, the league announced on Tuesday.

Cambridge, who was also named Second Team All-Ivy,  is the first Brown freshman to earn Rookie of the Year since Sean McGonagill in 2011.

He becomes just one five Brown players in program history to win the award.

Cambridge in 2017-18

Cambridge set a Brown freshman scoring record with 468 points, passing the previous mark of 460 points set by Brown's all-time leading scorer Earl Hunt in 2000.

Cambridge ranked third in the Ivy League in overall scoring with 17.3 points per game and second in conference scoring with 18.6 points per game.

His 2.5 threes per game were fifth in the Ivy League, while his 27 blocked shots ranked sixth.

Cambridge reached double figures in scoring in 24 of Brown's 27 games and scored at least 20 points eight times, including a career-high 33 points against Marist.

He posted his first career double-double at Columbia with 26 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
