Brown Basketball Releases 2016-17 Schedule

The Brown Bears men's basketball team have announced their 2016-17 regular season schedule, which includes  a record 16 home games, an early season tournament and games against in state rivals Providence, URI and Bryant. 

"We believe this schedule will give our team great preparation for the Ivy League. We are very pleased to be able to play the other three Division I programs in our state, along with participating in a terrific early season tournament, while also playing nine non-league home games," said Brown Head Coach Mike Martin. 

Rivalries Renewed

The Bears will take on URI on November 16 at the Ryan Center as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic.  The Bears then host the Bryant Bulldogs on November 28 before completing in state play when they visit Providence on December 6 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. 

Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic 

Brown will kick off their season and the tournament on November 11 when they visit Cincinnati. Brown will then visit URI on the 16th, before wrapping up tournament play against Marist and Albany at the Mohegan Sun Arena on November 19 and 20, respectively. 

Schedule Highlights 

The Bears will play their home opener on Monday, November 14 against Niagara. 

Brown will also play home games against Morgan State on November 23, Bryant on the 28th, St. Francis on the 30th, Emerson on December 9, Johnson & Wales on the 10th, Maine on the 22nd, Quinnipiac on the 29th and a New Year's Eve game against Stony Brook. 

Brown went 7-6 overall at home last season. 

On the road, Brown will visit Central Connecticut, on December 3, Providence on December 9 and NJIT on January 4.

The Bears went 1-13 on the road last season. 

Ivy League Play 

The Ivy League schedule has an exclamation point to it this season with the league set to play the first ever Ivy Tournament at the Palestra in Philadelphia on March 11 and 12. The top four teams will earn a tournament berth. 

The Bears will open their Ivy League schedule by playing 5 of their first 6 games on the road, starting on January 13 when they visit Princeton and then Penn on the 14th. 

The Bears will open their Ivy League home schedule on Friday, January 20 when they host defending champion Yale. 

Other Ivy home games include Harvard on February 10 and Dartmouth on February 11, Penn and Princeton on February 17 and 18 and Columbia on March 3 before Brown closes the regular season schedule on March 4 against Cornell. 

Brown Basketball 

Brown went 8-20 overall and 3-11 in Ivy League play during the 2015-16 season winning Ivy League games against Penn, Cornell and Dartmouth, all at home. 

Other Brown wins came against Holy Cross, Central Connecticut, Bryant, Bethune-Cookman and Daniel Webster.
