Carolina improves to 3-1.

Patriots Defense Can’t Hold Panthers

After the Patriots tied the game at 30, the Patriots defense sacked Panthers quarterback Cam Newton on third down and appeared to have gotten off the field.

However, cornerback Stephon Gilmore was called for illegal hands to the face giving the Panthers an automatic first down.

The hands to the face penalty was Gilmore’s second of the game.

The Panthers drove down the field and ended the game on a 48-yard field goal by Graham Gano to win the game 33-30.

The Patriots defense gave up a total of 446 yards and four touchdowns.

Coming into the game, the Panthers offense had only scored a total of two touchdowns in their first three games.

Patriots Rally in 4th

The Patriots trailed by 14 points, 30-16, with 12:58 to play in the game following a touchdown run by Newton.

New England would then rally for 14 straight points of their own starting with a Dion Lewis eight-yard touchdown run to cut the Panthers lead to 30-23 with 8:46 left to play.

After the Patriots defense forced a three and out on Carolina’s ensuing possession, Tom Brady found Danny Amendola in the back of the end zone to tie the game at 30 after a Stephen Gostkowski extra point was good.
