Rams Spoil Brown's State Sweep, Roll Bears 80-60

The University of Rhode Island Rams (8-3) defeated the in state rival (7-7) Brown Bears 80-60 on New Years Eve at the Ryan Center. The win snaps Brown's four game winning streak and gives URI a three game winning streak of their own.

The Rams took control of the game right from the get go, jumping out to an 11-5 advantage on the Bears and eventually extending it to a 25-14 advantage midway through the first half. The Bears cut it to nine on a couple of different occasions in the first half but were never able to really threaten the Rams. URI cruised to the victory.

URI was led in the game by Hassan Martin who netted 17 points in the game and also pulled down seven rebounds. E.C. Matthews followed up with 12 points of his own. 

The Brown Bears were led by Cedric Kuakumensah who had a game high 21 points while Tavon Blackmon poured in 13 points in the loss. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday, January 3 when they visit St. Louis for the start of A10 play. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.

The Brown Bears will look to get back in the win column when they return to action on January 5 to host UMass Lowell. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
