Rams Spoil Brown's State Sweep, Roll Bears 80-60

The Rams took control of the game right from the get go, jumping out to an 11-5 advantage on the Bears and eventually extending it to a 25-14 advantage midway through the first half. The Bears cut it to nine on a couple of different occasions in the first half but were never able to really threaten the Rams. URI cruised to the victory.

The Brown Bears were led by Cedric Kuakumensah who had a game high 21 points while Tavon Blackmon poured in 13 points in the loss.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, January 3 when they visit St. Louis for the start of A10 play. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
The Brown Bears will look to get back in the win column when they return to action on January 5 to host UMass Lowell. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Five Takeaways From the Rams 80-60 Win Over Brown
Biggie Minnis
URI got a solid performance out of Biggie Minnis in the game against Brown. Minnis contributed a season high ten points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field.
Minnis also dished out a team leading five assists and pulled down two rebounds.
With conference play starting on Saturday for the Rams, URI will be looking for more consistent play from Biggie Minnis.
Tavon Blackmon
Tavon Blackmon had 13 points and seven assists for Brown, however he turned the ball over six times. Brown as a team, only turned it over 12 times.
The Rams had 16 points off of Brown's 12 turnovers while Brown only got seven points off of URI's 11 turnovers.
Blackmon's six turnovers cancel out the seven assists he had.
Hassan Martin
Hassan Martin was a force to be reckoned with in this game, leading the Rams with 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the field.
Martin also pulled down seven rebounds, had one steal and had three of URI's eight blocks.
Solid performance from Martin, just what the Rams needed against a good front line for the Brown Bears.
Leland King
In order to win this game, Brown needed a good performance from Leland King and they didn't get it. King had only five points on 1 of 8 shooting from the field in the 21 minutes of action he saw.
King added five rebounds, one block and one turnover to his stat line.
Leland King has been great for Brown most of the season but he has now found himself in single digit's in two of the last three games.
Bigs didn't play big
The story of this game is that the Brown big men did not play all that big for the majority of the game. Cedric Kuakumensah had 21 points and three blocks in the game but only five rebounds, none of which came in the first half.
Rafael Maia had nine points and six rebounds (3 in each half) while Leland King had five rebounds, but only one in the second half.
The Rams pretty much got contributions from everyone and won the rebounding battle 38-27 and got themselves 16 second chance points.
Brown needs their big men to play like big men on a more consistent basis.
