Sky Chiefs Win BENRUS Pro Basketball Championship!
Sky Chiefs win BENRUS Pro Basketball ChampionshipThe Providence Sky Chiefs defeated the San Francisco Rumble 105-103 to win the inaugural BENRUS Pro Basketball Championship on Sunday afternoon at Brown University.
The BENRUS Pro Basketball Championship is an invitational game set up by BENRUS CEO and Sky Chiefs owner Giovanni Feroce featuring the East Region champion Sky Chiefs and the West Region Champ San Francisco.
"It means a lot, it's great for Rhode Island, great for the Sky Chiefs and great for BENRUS," Sky Chiefs coach Kyle Ivey-Jones said after the game.
With the game tied at 103 and 17 seconds left on the clock, Providence's Deshaune Green grabbed the offensive rebound and put the ball back in just as time expired to give Providence the win.
The Sky Chiefs trailed by double-figures at halftime and trailed in the final couple of minutes of the game before battling back.
"It's a testament to our team, we didn't give up," added Ivey Jones on his team's come back win.
Providence was led by Jamal Wilson who poured in 23 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds to lead Providence in the win. Shane Da Rosa followed up with 21 points for Providence.
The Off-Season
The win sends the Sky Chiefs into the off season on a positive note as they will look for ways to improve the team for next season.
"A lot of recruitment, camps and then try outs. Just because it's the off season doesn't mean we are going to be relaxing. We need to get better for next season," Ivey-Jones said on the upcoming off season.
After a successful first season, the Sky Chiefs will look to come back and repeat their success next season.
