URI Basketball Gets Commitment From Three-Star Recruit Mading

The URI Rams men’s basketball team received a verbal commitment from forward Marial Mading for the class of 2019. Mading made the announcement on his Twitter account. 

"Feels good to be a Rhody Ram," Mading wrote on Twitter. 

Mading, a 6'11" forward, is ranked as a three-star recruit by 24/7 Sports and a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

According to 24/7sports, Mading also had offers from Hofstra, Quinnipiac, and Tulane. 

He is the second commitment the Rams have received for the 2019 class behind Mekhi Long.

About Mading

Mading grew up in Australia before moving to the United States to play basketball.

He first played for St. Maria Goretti School in Hagerstown, Maryland. 

In December, he joined Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Massachusetts where he played as a guard. 

URI in 2018-19

The Rams are coming off a season in which they won the A-10 regular season championship for the first time in program history.

They got to the NCAA Tournament, and advanced to the second round of the tournament for the second straight year, before losing to Duke.

Notable players that are returning to the Rams this season include sophomore Fatts Russell, junior Jeff Dowtin and junior Cyril Langevine.
