URI Basketball Releases 2016-17 Non-Conference Schedule

The University of Rhode Island men's basketball team has released their 2016-17 non-conference schedule. The schedule features 12 games, seven of which are at home and 8 against postseason teams from the 2015-16 season. 

URI will also play two neutral site games as part of the Hall of Fame Tipoff at Mohegan Sun. 

Home Schedule

URI opens their season at home against Dartmouth on November 11 before hosting Marist and then in state rival Brown on November 14 and 16 respectively. 

The Rams host Ohio Valley power Belmont on November 25 and then Old Dominion on December 6. 

URI closes out the non conference schedule with home games against Patriot League Champion Holy Cross on December 18 and William & Mary on December 22. 

Road Schedule 

The Rams play two neutral site games on November 19 and 20 as part of the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament at Mohegan Sun. URI will not play a true road game on November 29 when they visit NIT finalist Valparasio.

The Hall of Fame games at Mohegan Sun will see the Rams take on Cincinnati on November 19 and then either Duke or Penn State on November 20. 

Following the game against Valparaiso, URI will renew their rivalry with Providence on December 3 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. URI has lost 5 straight games to the Friars and 6 straight games when facing PC in Providence. 

The Rams close their non-conference road schedule on December 10 against Houston. 

Full Schedule Release

URI will release tier full schedule, conference games included at a later date. 

The conference home and away matchups have already been released. 

2016-17 URI Basketball 

In 2015-16, the Rams went 17-15 overall and 9-9 in the A-10 after losing star guard E.C. Matthews in the first game of the season and sitting A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Hassan Martin for the final four games of the season with knee tendonitis.

In 2016-17, URI will one of the favorites to win the A-10 Conference and get back to the NCAA Tournament.

The Rams will return E.C. Matthews, Hassan Martin, Jared Terrell, Jarvis Garrett and Kuran Iverson while transfer Stanford Robinson will be eligible to play.
