URI Season Is Over - Rams Lose to Bottom-Seeded Fordham by 17 Points in A-10 Tournament

Fordham — the last-seeded team in the Atlantic-10 Conference — blew out the University of Rhode Island by 17 points in the opening round game of the Atlantic-10 Tournament. 

Fordham won 88-71. They had not won a game in four weeks and were on an 8-game losing streak before beating Rhode Island Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

URI finishes the season at 18-13 and 7-11 in the A-10 Conference.

It was a dismal end to Coach Archie Miller’s season, which began with the team going 9-0.

For the third consecutive year, Miller’s URI teams have gone one-and-done in the opening round of the Atlantic-10. Miller has finished the third year of a five-year contract. He is paid more than $2 million a year.

Fordham guards Jackie Johnson, III (29 points) and Japhet Medor (26 points) combined for 55 points.

Fordham goes on to play George Washington in the second round.

Jaden House led URI with 19 points. Rhode Island shot just 35% from the floor for the game.
