Willie McGinest, Houston Antwine Inducted Into Patriots Hall of Fame

Former Patriots Houston Antwine and Willie McGinest were inducted as the 23rd and 24th members of the Patriots Hall of Fame on Wednesday night in a ceremony outside of the Hall of Fame. 

"In the words of my mom, Joyce McGinest, 'its about damn time!" McGinest joked and pointed out his mother sitting in the front row.

Willie McGinest was drafted by the Patriots in 1996 and went to four Super Bowl's with New England, winning three titles, and played for three different coaches. McGinest thanked Bill Parcells for giving him a chance and Pete Carroll for helping him develop before getting Bill Belichick. 

"He will go down as the greatest coach in NFL history, I promise you," McGinest said to the huge crowd in attendance. 

Once McGinest finished his remarks, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick made a surprise appearance and offered his thoughts on McGinest. 

"If a guy was out of line or not doing the right thing, Willie would just give him that look. It was an awesome, awesome display of leadership," Belichick said. 

Belichick concluded by saying "Willie meant so much to our football team, it was an honor and a pleasure to coach you, and you look good in red.

Houston Antwine

Houston Antwine
Houston Antwine was a member of the Patriots for 11 seasons, from 1961-71 and appeared in 142 games and led New England in sacks in three consecutive seasons. Antwine totaled 39 career sacks . 

Houston Antwine passed away at the age of 72 in 2011 so his teammate and fellow Patriots Hall of Famer Jon Morris spoke about him. 

"I know I speak for 'Twine, if he are here, he'd say this is the highest honor of his life," Morris said before making the case for Houston Antwine to be in the pro football Hall of Fame. 

Morris concluded "Thank you for taking me under your wing when I was a rookie. You may have weighted 275 pounds but were always a perfect gentlemen. Rest in peace my good friend." 

Former Patriots in Attendance

Other former Patriots in attendance at the ceremony included Patriots Hall of Famers Ty Law, Troy Brown and Geno Cappelletti while Richard Seymour, Roman Phifer and Chris Slade as well as former backup quarterback Scott Zolak. 

New England Patriots

After the ceremony, the Patriots held an in stadium practice for season ticket holders as they gear up for the start of the preseason which will take place Thursday, August 13 at Gillette Stadium.
