The 2014 season marked Flynn's second stint with the Packers, playing his first four seasons there before spending time in Seattle, Oakland and Buffalo.

Matt Flynn has a total of seven career starts, his first coming in 2010 against the Patriots in which he went 24 of 37 for 251 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-27 loss at Gillette Stadium.

Flynn was a seventh round pick of Green Bay in 2008 out of LSU and will turn 30 years old on June 20.

Tom Brady's Status

Tom Brady
As it stands now, Tom Brady will miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension handed down by the NFL for his role in deflategate.

However, Brady has filed an appeal and that appeal is set to be heard by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on June 23.

The signing of the Matt Flynn gives the Patriots some insurance in case projected starter Jimmy Garoppolo gets injured or struggles in his time under center.

Tim Wright Waived

Earlier in the day on Thursday, the Patriots released tight end Tim Wright. Wright was acquired in a deal just prior to the 2014 season that saw the Patriots trade away guard Logan Mankins.

Wright pulled in 26 receptions for 259 yards and six touchdowns on 33 targets for the Patriots last season.

Off Season Schedule

The New England Patriots, along with the rest of the NFL, will hold a three day minicamp starting next week before breaking for over a month prior to the start of training camp.
