Smart Benefits: The Shift from Wellness to Well-Being

Annual health screenings aren’t out but they’re no longer defining wellness at many companies. A recent report from Shortlister of wellness experts at leading employee benefits consultants revealed employers’ increased focus on an approach to wellbeing – emotional, financial, employee engagement, etc. – over classic wellness programs.

In the report, 90% percent of respondents to the survey said that more employers are shifting to a total “well-being” approach over physical health programs like biometric screenings or walking groups. Why?

•    Employees want support in establishing a sense of purpose in their personal and professional lives
•    Employers need to address financial stress that impacts productivity
•    Companies understand they have to shift their culture to attract, retain and engage employees

To meet these needs, the report stated that companies are actively looking to add resources aimed at addressing stress, financial security, personal development, work-life balance, resilience, purpose and more.
