United Way of RI Announces Staff Promotions at 2-1-1 Call Center & The POINT

The promotions come after the center answers nearly a quarter-million calls for help from Rhode Islanders last year.

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTEvelyn Cabrera has been promoted to 2-1-1 Call Center Manager, having spent the previous four years as a bilingual call specialist for the free information and referral help center that’s available 24-hours day.
In her new role, Cabrera manages a staff of eight, overseeing 2-1-1’s first, second, and third shift positions.
She is also a Senior Health Insurance Program counselor.
Prior to joining UWRI in 2014, Cabrera spent nearly a decade in various roles with Family Service of Rhode Island. She is a resident of Johnston.

She previously served as program coordinator for The POINT.
As call center manager, Medina oversees a team that takes 40,000 calls annually, providing information and referrals for long-term care options, and helping seniors enroll in Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs that affect the quality of life.
Prior to joining United Way, Medina spent more than a decade working at Cherry Hill Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Johnston.
She is a resident of Cranston and currently pursuing a degree in psychology at Rhode Island College.
Following three years as a counselor with The POINT, Sylvia Bernal has been promoted to Project Lead, Medicare-Medicaid Options Counselor.
In this role, she manages staff and specially-trained volunteers in delivering services to dual beneficiaries, and provides confidential one-on-one options counseling for Medicare-Medicaid individuals.
Additionally, Bernal delivers training updates to Senior Health Insurance Program counselors on the Integrated Care Initiative, Rhode Island’s program to improve the care for those eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare through stronger coordination of healthcare and support services.
A resident of Providence, Bernal studied Marketing at the University of Lima in Peru, and attended the Community College of Rhode Island.
