Donald Rumsfeld once quoted the following

•There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know.

•There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know.

•But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.

With that being said, I decided to come up with a few Matt-ism myself, and they go like this:

•You don't know, and You care

•You know, and You care.

•You don't know, & You don't care.

•You know, but you don't care

You don't know, but you care are the people who want to live a healthy lifestyle, yet they are unaware of specific details and mistakes preventing them from achieving their health and fitness goals. They have all the best intentions but are easily fooled and manipulated into taking the wrong action.

Some examples are:

They shop at Whole Foods, yet they still put a lot of processed food labeled organic into their baskets.

Just because cookies are organic doesn't mean they are healthy.

Even things like frozen dinners and heavily processed items from their salad bar are not ideal for you because foods containing gluten, dairy, and soy can cause inflammation in the gut. This leads to a less-than-ideal digestive process, making losing weight and getting fit difficult.

On the other hand, they buy their meats in bulk from big discount stores to save money. I get it; quality food is expensive, but our lives depend on eating quality food. I have a rule that I don't buy food in places that sell tires and patio furniture a couple of aisles over. The food comes from factory farms, is mass-produced, and lacks the quality and nutrition of small sustainable farms.

Another myth folks get fooled by is that eating fat-free is better for you than eating foods that contain fat. Artificial flavors, sugars, and chemicals are usually added to preserve the taste when something is fat-free.

True story: WE NEED GOOD QUALITY FAT to function optimally. Salmon, almonds, avocado, and olive oil are highly beneficial and healthy. Fats are good for energy, brain function, and a healthy digestive system, so don't subscribe to the fat-free myth.

Lastly, too many people listen to their doctors and take too many pills to try and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Doctors know how to treat sick people, yet they fall short of prescribing methods to keep us healthy. Unless you see a holistic, homeopathic physician, doctors are not the ones to seek advice for preventative health. Remember, the medical association and FDA are funded by big food and big Pharma, so profit is their primary interest, not your health.

To the people who care about their health but don't know what to do, I suggest doing more research while continuing your health journey. Find a reputable fitness professional with many credentials and take their advice. Optimal health and fitness are within your reach, so stay focused on your mission and keep learning better ways.

You know, and care are the folks who have it dialed in. They are fit and healthy, and their focus is always on bettering their situation. They shop for high-quality food and are always prepared. Maintenance is easy for them because they have the knowledge and capacity to continue on the path to becoming the best version of themselves.

You don't know, and you don't care, along with you know, but you don't care, are two categories of people I can't decide which is worse. If you don't care, it's useless to try convincing this population of the damage they are doing.

First, they are harming themselves by recklessly jamming hot dogs, doughboys, alcohol, soda, and other harmful products down their throats. I'm not sure any humans doesn't know that this is bad for you to do, yet many do it anyway. They protest the Big Gulp ban, as it infringes on their freedom to do damage to themselves.

They are a ticking time bomb waiting for The "Four Horsemen" of chronic disease (cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and metabolic disease) that kill around 80% of the population.to come knocking down their door. (I am reading a book called "Outlive" that states these chronic diseases are likely to be avoided with a lifestyle change).

Despite the facts and research, many still continue down the path of disease and sickness.

They are also a liability to their families, and they will eventually require their help to deal with their sickness.

They clog up the health care system with preventable ailments because they don't care about their health and the repercussions and domino effect it causes. They continue to do what suits them and have total disregard for others.

In conclusion, those who care, I commend you.

It's beneficial for you to maintain optimal health and fitness and benefits everyone around you.

Those of you who don't care and continue to cause detrimental damage to yourselves and others expect a wake-up call from the Four Horsemen.

If you are lucky, you may get an opportunity to make some changes and improve your lifestyle; however, on the flip side, you may not, and your family will be left holding the burden. It's a choice that only you can make.

Committed to your health,

Matt
