We are talking about being a quitter and how, when you understand this topic, it can help clarify how to streamline the goal-reaching process!!
Quitting your job & fitness routine are NOT things you should stop (unless you are unhappy with the end result); however, you need to learn and understand what things in your life you should QUIT to reach success!!
There are many areas where you will start to see how this can help, but today, I'm going to give you a couple to start thinking about:
Quit self-doubt.
I am guilty of this; it cannot be turned on and off like a light switch. It's more like using a dimmer switch, where you do the required tasks and actions that will give you confidence.
We always see what others are doing and think, "Wow, I can't do that," but what if you looked at it in a different light and said, "If they can do it, so can I."
I used to look at other Fit Body owners who were crushing it and think they had some magic formula for success when it turns out they were following the process, taking action, and doing what was required.
Now, with the team we have in place, we will be one of the best in the brand, align with those super successful locations, and set the standard because we are taking action towards our goal.
The same goes for new people walking into the gym.
When you look at people lifting weights and doing hard things, your initial thought may be, "Wow, I can't do that."
Or you may see someone that just lost 20# and think that goal is unattainable.
However, when you reverse the thought process and use other people's success as fuel, you can change your mindset and think, "If they did it or are doing it, so can I."
Then, it would help if you took the necessary action, and with each pound you lose, you build confidence that will remove self-doubt. Once you start seeing success, it creates even more momentum and self-confidence to achieve your goal.
Quit saying yes to everything.
Guilty again. This is especially true when it comes to helping kids and giving to charity.
I still have a tough time saying no, but in the past, I never said no, and it got me into situations where I was sacrificing my time and energy in places I shouldn't have.
Yes, it's nice to do things for others, but sometimes it can stress you out, cost you money, and overwhelm you, so remember, in some instances, it's okay to say no.
We all have "shiny object" syndrome, where we have the discipline of a fish, and when something new and fun-looking floats by, we strike at the opportunity and get into trouble for doing so.
This could be something simple like saying no to going out with friends or something as complex as making a monetary investment in a real estate project.
I was invited to Patriots football games on a Sunday night but said no because I planned a busy Monday and needed to be productive. If I said yes, my Monday would be miserable, and for what? A football game?
I have also said no to people asking for money from great charities.
We now have scheduled events and fundraisers that center around our members and the causes they support, as opposed to random people soliciting money. Now, we actually give more to some by saying no to others.
So when something doesn't serve you or your cause, remember that it's okay to say no, especially if it will set you back and delay your ability to reach a specific goal.
Quit making promises to yourself you don't keep.
This is something that I have gotten better at, and very rarely do I drift away from this one.
When I set my alarm at night, I promise to get up at a specific time. If I were to hit snooze, that would be a broken promise. If I want to sleep a little later, I either don't set the alarm or make it for a later time. Never hit snooze & break that promise!!
The other day, I intended to run 4 miles. I hate to run; my knee was sore, and I had just done a boot camp workout, but I told myself I would run the entire Blackstone Blvd.
About 1/2 way through it, I started to negotiate with my inner "little bitch”. Just do 3 miles; that's enough. You just worked out; that's enough, but my internal advocate talked me through it, and when I finished, I had a fantastic sense of gratification. I kept my promise to myself.
You will see that when you make a promise to yourself and keep it, the sense of self-fulfillment you will get is amazing. It feels as good as keeping your promise to others and is a great practice to do regularly.
I'm not just saying these things to you, but I'm also saying these things to me!!
These are excellent reminders to keep us on track and pushing towards living the life we desire & deserve.
However, at times, that can be difficult, and we find ourselves wrapped up doing many things we know we need to QUIT to achieve our goals!
Develop the initiative, discipline, & consistency to practice these things regularly, and you will soon see that being in a better position in life isn't always about adding something to our plates.
Sometimes, it works better to simplify and quit doing the things that hold us back so we can take steps forward.
Committed to your success,
Matt
