Omicron is Dominant in U.S. — 73% of All New Cases, Biden to Offer 500M Home Tests

The CDC announced late on Monday that the Omicron variant is spreading at a rate far faster than anticipated and now represents 73% of new cases in the United States.

There is now anticipation that Omicron may drive more than 1 million cases per day — four times the highest case count since the pandemic hit the United States.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday is expected to announce that the federal government will provide 500 million at-home rapid COVID tests at no cost.

In Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, the Department of Health announced that nearly 4,000 people tested positive for COVID over the weekend. 

And, six died over the weekend pushing the total to 2,998.

Deeply concerning is that the transmission rate in Rhode Island continues to climb.

The transmission rate is now 726.7 per 100,000 in a seven-day period.

Hospitalizations are reported to have dropped to 230.
