Costantino’s Venda Ravioli Robbed for $60,000 After Columbus Day Celebration

Providence Police are investigating a breaking and entering into the offices of Costantino’s Venda Ravioli on Federal Hill after the Columbus Day Festival.

The perpetrators allegedly stole more than $60,000 in cash from Costantino’s. The theft was a portion of the sales from the weekend celebration during the four-day celebration on Federal Hill. The event drew tens of thousands to the event.

According to Providence Police, “On 10/14/2019 at approximately 23:37 hours, Ptlm. Manown responded to 265 Atwells Ave (Venda Ravioli) for a report of Breaking and Entering. Upon arrival, Patrolman Manown met with the complainant and owner of the restaurant Michael Costantino.”

The robbery is just the latest high profile incident on Federal Hill. In the past few months, there have been two high profile brutal murders.

“Costantino stated that someone had gained entry into the office located upstairs within the time frame of 0200 and 2300 of the report date and stole money out of a locked filing cabinet. Manown observed there to be damage to the top drawer of the locked filing cabinet that the money was stolen from. Costantino stated that a total of $61,400 USD had been taken from the top drawer,” according to the Police report.

“Costantino’s brother, Gabriel Costantino, stated that he could not account for his keys to the building and offices and believed that someone had used them to gain entry into the building/office. G. Costantino also stated that he remembered locking the deadbolt to the offices prior to leaving the restaurant at approximately 0200 hours,” stated the report.

“Patrolman Manown observed there to be no damage to the office door as well as exterior doors to the building. It should be noted that later during the investigation, G. Costantino located his keys inside of a sweatshirt that was found within the restaurant. G. Costantino stated that he had left his sweatshirt outside in the food stand which was located in front of the above-stated address the day prior and an employee had brought the sweatshirt inside. M. Costantino later stated that the money was held within 8 labeled and sealed envelopes and had been the monies from the sales from the food stand that was located in front of the restaurant during the Columbus Day Festival.”

“While speaking to M. Costantino, Ptlm. Manown was told that there are only 2 people other than G. Costantino and himself that have keys for the offices located above the restaurant. Although, M. Costantino also stated that there is approximately 300 plus employees that know that the monies from the restaurant and store are kept within these offices. M. Costantino also stated to Ptlm. Manown that an overhead light in the adjoining office had broken earlier that day and believed it could have been from a blown fuse or that someone might have used the metal attached to the bulb to pry opens the top drawer of the filing cabinet,” according to Providence Police.

Efforts to reach Costantino was unsuccessful.
