Ghiorse Monday PM Update: Snow/Rain Line for Tuesday Still Uncertain

John Ghiorse
My thinking hasn't changed very much from yesterday. I still have no concern that we will miss this storm BUT the main problem continues to be the track of the storm center. Much of the data indicates the core of the low pressure will pass close to if not over Cape Cod. If that happens, much of Southeastern Mass.and Rhode Island will experience a mix or change to sleet and rain during the height of the storm Tuesday afternoon. That would cut back snow amounts considerably.

Where there is no changeover, snow will pile up in the 1-2 foot range. In areas where a change takes place, there should be several inches before the switch. At this point there is really no way to accurately predict where the rain/snow line will set up ... it will be a "game time" call.

Travel conditions will be abysmal beginning tomorrow morning. The storm will not linger as it will taper off to snow showers and flurries later tomorrow night into early Wednesday.
