McKee's Decision to Ease Restrictions in Direct Conflict with Dr. Fauci’s Guidance

Gov. McKee ordered that restrictions be relaxed, Dr. Fauci warns states
Dr. Anthony Fauci said America needs to lower the number of new daily cases by more than 80% before states start easing their restrictions.

This guidance is in direct conflict with actions taken by Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee on Thursday. McKee relaxed restrictions on restaurants, gyms, for events, and funerals.

According to Fauci, the U.S. shouldn't ease restrictions currently in place to prevent coronavirus spread before the number of new coronavirus cases falls below 10,000 daily, "and maybe even considerably less than that," Fauci said Thursday on CNN.

On Thursday, America suffered more than 67,000 new cases.

In an interview on CNN, Fauci said that the U.S. should pull restrictions gradually, after a substantial portion of Americans are vaccinated.

RI One of 7 States Ranked "Active Outbreak"

RI continues to be one of the most infected states
Covid ActNow continues to rank Rhode Island as being in an "Active Outbreak."  Rhode Island is one of only seven states at this high level of spread.

"We will be pulling back," said Fauci, President Joe Biden's chief medical adviser. "We're now up to about 2 million vaccinations per day. That means every day that goes by, every week that goes by, you have more and more people protected."

Dr. Michael Fine, the former Rhode Island Director of Health said before McKee's announcement on GoLocal LIVE that the lessening of restrictions could help to spark a third wave for Rhode Island.
