UPDATE: Shooting Death in Providence Likely “Accidental Discharge,” According to Police

Providence Police have provided new information regarding the shooting death in the city on Wednesday. 

"We are looking into the possibility that it was an accidental discharge," Providence Police Major David Lapatin confirmed with GoLocal on Thursday. 

The victim was a 29-year-old male, but no additional information is available at this time.

As GoLocal reported on Wednesday: 

A man passed away from a gunshot wound in Providence on Wednesday.

The location of the shooting was Chad Brown Housing — a facility managed by the City of Providence Housing Authority

“We can confirm that a man was shot and he passed away,” Providence Major David Lapatin told GoLocal when reached for comment.
