Weekend Assaults

Violent Robbery Reported

On Friday, shortly after 11 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Victoria and Gage Streets in Mt. Pleasant for a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the complainant, who was "hysterically crying and hyperventilating."

The complainant informed Providence police that she was walking in the area of Victoria and Galileo Streets when she was approached by two males wearing black hoodies and face masks.

She told police that one of the subjects grabbed her by the arm and pulled her aside, proceeded to grab a gold name bracelet off her wrist, and that the other subject then proceeded to grab a gold necklace off her neck.

The complainant informed police that during the altercation the subjects ripped her shirt and grabbed her breasts multiple times. She said she attempted to fight off the subjects, and that the other subject then began to punch her in the face multiple times.

She informed police that she felt a poking feeling on her ribs - and police observed a small laceration on her ribs. She told police she had run down Victoria Street and flagged down a subject who called police.

The woman was transported to Roger Williams Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

7-Eleven Incident

On Saturday shortly after 5:30 p.m.,  police responded to the 7-Eleven at the intersection of Eddy and Weybosset Streets for the report of a disturbance.

Providence police said they observed blood on the ground, a red hat and smashed sunglasses upon arrival — the owner of 7-Eleven gave police a description of the suspect who he said assaulted him and then fled.

Police observed the owner to be covered in blood and had an apparent cut to his face under his left eye.  The store owner stated to police that he was working in the store, restocking the shelf when the subject took two large packs of beef jerky and told the owner “that he would pay him when he had money.”

When the owner said he told him to stop, he said the subject punched him in the face…and reached into the waistband of his shorts to pull out a weapon, later identified as a screwdriver. The owner said he then used the scanner in his hand at the time and hit the assailant in the head, which caused him to flee on foot down Weybosset Street.

Police were canvassing the area when dispatch advised that a passerby called and stated that [a male subject] was bleeding from his face and just entered the Arcade Garage on 66 Weybosset. Police entered the garage when another passerby stated that there was a male on the roof of the garage. Police apprehended the subject on the 9th level of the garage and he was taken into custody without incident.

Police stated that 7-Eleven cameras were on and working at the time but police were not able to review the footage at the time of the incident. The subject is being charged by the patrol bureau with larceny and shoplifting.

Report of Stabbing

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to 57 Fairmount Avenue for a report of a Felony Assault.

When police arrived, the complainant stated that her son had stabbed her in the back.

Police observed that the victim had several stab wounds to her back as well as her right ear, and that there was a large amount of blood on the kitchen floor and on her clothing.

The victim stated to police that her son had fled prior to police arrival but did not know where he went. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
