RI Reports 16 Coronavirus Deaths Over Weekend, Nearly 2500 New Cases

The Rhode Island Department of Health on Monday reported 16 COVID-19 related fatalities — and nearly 2,500 new cases — over the weekend. 

Hospitalizations are now at 256, with 21 people in the ICU.

The numbers for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Rhode Island come as the United States saw 135,187 new cases on November 15 — an 81% increase in a fourteen day period.

The U.S. had 623 fatalities on Sunday, a 39% increase over a 14 day period. 

Virus in Focus

• On Monday, teachers unions in Rhode Island called for a “pause” in in-school learning due to the rising numbers. 
• Moderna announced Monday that their vaccine is reportedly 94.5% effective against coronavirus, which comes just after Pfizer announcing its vaccine trial showed a 90 percent effective rate. 
• With health and government officials stressing that staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting sick, AAA anticipates at least a 10% drop in travel – the largest one-year decrease since the Great Recession in 2008.
