Omicron Rampages Through RI - 150 COVID Deaths Recorded in December

The Rhode Island Department of Health reported 4,141 new COVID cases in Rhode Island on Tuesday — a number that is likely to set a new daily record when all the data is recorded.

The previous high for testing positive on a single day was 4,237 -- December 30, 2021.

Deaths Are Spiking

In addition, COVID deaths increased more than 180% from November to December. In November, there were 53 COVID deaths in Rhode Island — that number spiked to 150 deaths in December.

On Tuesday, RIDOH reported total deaths are now at 3,096 — an increase of 30 fatalities since Thursday.

 

Hospitalizations Up

Hospitalizations also rose to 382, but based on the reported numbers, are not coupled with cases at the moment. The hospitalizations have increased from 162 over the past 30 days.

The highest number of COVID hospitalizations in Rhode Island was 513 on December 15, 2020.

 

Testing for January 5

The McKee administration on Tuesday announced community-based COVID-19 vaccination clinics scheduled for Wednesday, January 5.

Community-based COVID-19 vaccination clinics will be held in Little Compton, East Providence, Pawtucket, and Providence. Registration is recommended for these clinics.

In addition, the COVID-19 vaccine is available at state vaccination sites, in many healthcare providers’ offices and pharmacies throughout Rhode Island.
