Prov. Police Arrest Sex Offender for Taking Photo Up Woman’s Skirt at Prov. Place Mall

The Providence Police announced that they have made an apprehension in a recent ‘upskirting’ incident at Providence Place Mall.

The following statement was released from the Providence Police on Friday morning:

"On August 30th at approximately 10:30 a.m. Providence Police were called to Providence Place Mall for a report of a man attempting to take a photo up a woman’s skirt as she was riding up the escalator.  The suspect fled the scene when the victim turned to confront him.

Police received several tips from the public, one of which was from a detective from Lincoln, RI who was familiar with the suspect from prior incidents.

The suspect was identified as Gary Rasey, age 37, who has no permanent address. Rasey was recently released from the ACI and is registered as a Level 3 sex offender in Cranston for two counts of 1st degree sexual assault, which occurred in the town of Lincoln.  He is currently staying at the Harrington House located on the ACI grounds in Cranston. 

The victim positively identified Rasey and he was arrested by the PPD task force at 5 p.m. yesterday evening at the corner of Butler and Waterman Avenues in Providence.  Rasey is currently on probation until 2043. He was charged with 1 count of video voyeurism and was held for court this morning."
