Shortly before 7 PM on Wednesday, police responded to City Gas & Food Mart at 253 Elmwood Avenue for a report of a robbery.
Police met with the store clerk, who told police a "tall white male" entered the store and threatened him with a rock, saying, “I will hurt you.”
The suspect was reportedly able to reach over the counter and steal money from the cash register before fleeing the store.
Police located a male matching the suspect's description a short while later — entering another convenience store, Momo Mini Mart, at 150 Elmwood Avenue.
According to police, the suspect — identified as Justin Kulas, age 40 — was apprehended without incident.
He was taken to Central Station for processing.
Crimes of Convenience
The robbery is just the latest of its kind in the city.
As GoLocal reported on January 26:
On Tuesday, a man with a large steel knife threatened a cashier at Sam’s Food Mart on Manton Avenue and robbed the store of cash before fleeing, marking the latest episode of minimart robberies -- and more -- in Providence.
“What we do on these, we get as much info as possible — video and photos, as well as ancillary information and info from surrounding areas," said Clements. "We know with these types of crimes, where it’s a pattern and the same people, it will continue until we capture them and make a criminal case. That’s been our experience.”
