GoLocal reached out to Prince to comment on the acquisition. Octavian Prince’s attorney refused to provide him for an interview and only offered to respond to written questions. GoLocal declined to have the attorney answer questions.

He is the founder and CEO of O Street Capital, an investment firm "seeking out passion projects and innovative technologies positioned for the future."

Prince’s family dates back to 1633 in the United States.

His father, Frederick Henry Prince, IV, who died in 2017, was a noted investor and philanthropist. The family’s wealth is rooted in railroads and Chicago stockyards in the 19th century.

Other Cannabis Interests

One of Prince’s websites states he “launched Ocean State Botanicals, a medical marijuana facility in Rhode Island using state-of-the-art technology and the most innovative and sustainable cannabis extraction methods to make high-quality concentrates and flowers.”

That facility was cited by the state’s Department of Business Regulation's Office of Cannabis Regulation in 2020 and entered into a consent decree. And in 2024, Ocean State Botanicals entered into two “Deficiency Correction Agreements.”

He and his wife, Mary Kate, have donated to only one state candidate - Governor Dan McKee. Each donated $1,000 to McKee, according to state records.

Prince’s bio highlights his membership in a number of prominent and exclusive clubs, including Spouting Rock Beach Association, also known as Bailey’s Beach, an exclusive Newport Beach facility that U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse's family has been a member of for decades.

Whitehouse made global news for his defense of the club's exclusionary policies.

“They include: Foundation to Be Named Later (FTBNL), which runs the Hot Stove Cool Music event; Surfrider Foundation; The Preservation Society of Newport County; Cubs Charities; and Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (Formerly RIC). Octavius and Mary Katherine Prince are also members of the Spouting Rock Beach Association, The Clambake Club, and the Chicago Racquet Club,” states Prince's bio.

And Prince is also an actor and producer.

His bio states, “He served as an executive producer and actor in various films including The Preppie Connection (2015), Perception (2019), and Roe v. Wade (2021), a feature film documenting the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision where Octavius appeared as pro-choice attorney Cyril Means. Directed and produced by Nick Loeb and Cathy Allyn, the film documents the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision and the many figures with complex points of view who were involved. In Perception, he portrays a white supremacist, a role he took to highlight the darker side of the story of immigration reform. He hopes that this role will amplify the conversation and inspire critical thinking around issues that are relevant, complex, and rooted within our culture.”

The purchase of Greenleaf still needs final court approval and approval by the RI Cannabis Control Commission.

Editor's Note: An earlier version misspelled Octavius - Mr. Prince's first name.
