RI State Police Issue Nearly 100 Warnings, Citations for Violating Cell Phone Driving Law

The Rhode Island State Police have issued 93 warnings and/or citations for texting while driving and/or violating the state’s hands-free cell phone law during the U Drive. U Text. U Pay campaign.

Drive down any Rhode Island highway and will see multiple RI drivers holding and talking on the phone despite the new law.

“We hope this campaign sent a strong message to all motorists – that we will not tolerate distracted driving on our roadways. This highway safety campaign may be over, but our troopers will continue to educate motorists as to the dangers of distracted driving and enforce all motor vehicle laws – especially those involving hand-held use of cell phones and/or texting while driving,” said Colonel James Manni.
