Storm: Phase 1 Complete, Now Rain, Slush, Snow and Freeze Coming

The initial portion of the season’s first winter storm has hit with snowfall ranging from 2 to 4 inches depending on location, but much more is coming — especially cold temperatures.

After the snowfall began late Saturday, rain and drizzle hit, diminishing the accumulation.

 

Snow is expected to resume around noon and continue in the afternoon, dropping a couple more inches.

 

Then, in the evening, temperatures around the region are expected to drop to the low 20s, freezing roads and sidewalks that have not been cleared.

 

The National Weather Service forecast for Sunday night in the Providence area, is "Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph."

 

Monday morning’s commute could be complex, especially on untreated roads and ramps.

 

Commuting in Rhode Island has been delayed since the Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s Washington Bridge failure.

Then, on Tuesday, the NWS forecasts a significant rain and wind storm with gusts hitting as high as 55 MPH.
