About Incident

Providence police received a call for a stolen purse in the West End, shortly after 7 PM on Sunday.

Police say the victim — a female in her 40s — told them she had paused to take a rest when she had been walking on Chapin Avenue, when a vehicle pulled up alongside her.

She said it was a maroon SUV, and that there were at least four people inside.

According to the victim, a man — which she described as a black male — jumped out, approached her, and physically assaulted her.

She says the suspect snatched her purse and got back into the SUV, which took off.

Rescue was called to the scene to assist the victim.

Detectives are currently investigating.
