Anderson and Choh Help Brown Cruise Past NJIT 79-63

The Brown Bears men’s basketball team cruised past the NJIT Highlanders 79-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Brown’s campus.

The Bears were boosted by the play of Tamenang Choh, who poured in 19 points, while Brandon Anderson led the way with 26 points.

"I'm proud of how we played and our defense was terrific in the first half. We shared the ball extremely well and got to the paint. I have a lot of respect for NJIT, they're a really good team,” said Brown head coach Mike Martin.

For Choh, it was his second-highest points total of the season after he dropped 20 points against Bryant in the season opener. 

Brown improves to 4-1 on the season, while NJIT drops to 2-4 overall.

Brown in Control from Start

The Bears jumped all over NJIT right from the start of the game.

Leading 9-6 with 13 minutes left in the half, Brown went on a 20-6 run sparked by an Anderson three to take a 29-12 lead with seven minutes to play in the half.

The run was capped off by a Zach Hunsaker fast break three.

The Bears continued to pour it on in the first half, going up by as much as 26 points, 45-19, on another Hunsaker three with 1:30 left in the frame.

Hunsaker finished the game with 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.

Brown would take a 45-24 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, NJIT would get as close as ten points, 50-40, on a three by Zach Cooks with 14:40 to play in the game.

However, Anderson and Dan Friday would each knock down two free throws over the next two minutes to push the Bears lead back to 14, 54-40, with 13 minutes to play.

NJIT would not get closer than 11 points the rest of the way as Brown pushed their lead back up to as much as 20 points in the second half before cruising to the win.

The Bears recorded 16 assists on 27 baskets (27-of-52), while NJIT had just four assists on 21 baskets (21-of-54).

Brown returns to action on Tuesday, November 26 when they visit the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Game time is set for 5 p.m.
