NEW: PC Basketball's Diallo to Return for Senior Season, Withdraws Name from NBA Draft

Providence College basketball star Alpha Diallo withdrew his name from the NBA Draft and will return to school for his senior season, according to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

Diallo worked out for a number of teams including the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, and New York Knicks, but was not invited to the NBA Draft Combine.

He had until Wednesday, May 29 to either pull his name out of the draft or stay in.

Diallo's decision comes a week after head coach Ed Cooley signed a contract extension to stay at Providence.

This season, Diallo averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game for the Friars, leading them to an 18-16 overall record and an appearance in the NIT. 

His eight rebounds per game were second best in the Big East and his 16 points per game were ninth best in the conference.

Diallo was tied for first in the league in double-doubles with ten. 

Following the season, Diallo was named Second Team All-Big East.

In his career at PC, Diallo has recorded 1,155 career points in 99 games (11.7 ppg). 

He ranks 33rd all-time in scoring at Providence.

What it Means for PC

Diallo’s return means that the Friars will have three seniors and two graduate students eligible for the 2019-20 season.

Emmitt Holt is returning for a sixth year of eligibility, which he was granted by the NCAA.

PC added UMass grad transfer Luwane Pipkins in the offseason and will welcome incoming freshman Greg Gantt.

Providence also returns seniors Maliek White and Kalif Young, as well as, junior Nate Watson and sophomores David Duke, AJ Reeves and Jimmy Nichols.
