PC Guard Ashton-Langford is Transferring

Providence College basketball guard Makai Ashton-Langford announced that he intends to leave the program.

Ashton-Langford’s announced comes one day after Providence landed UMass transfer point guard Luwane Pipkins.

“I would like to thank Providence college for everything that they have done for me, giving me an opportunity to play basketball at a high level and the ability to have a free education. Built some great lifetime friendships in the two years that I have been here, truly unforgettable moments that I have had here, but I’ve decided to move on and transfer elsewhere, thank you to all my supporters I know you guys will always be around for me and I will never forget my doubters, you guys are the reason I will never stop. Nothing but love for Friartown,” said Ashton-Langford in a tweet.

Ashton-Langford has two years of eligibility left, but will not be able to transfer within the Big East, according to conference regulations.

During the 2018-19 season, Ashton-Langford played in 32 games and averaged 3.7 points and 1.5 rebounds, as well as, 2.3 assists in 17 minutes of action per game.

In 2017-18, Ashton-Lanford played in 31 games for the Friars and averaged 4.2 points and 1.7 assists in 13 minutes played per game.

Prior to coming to Providence, Ashton-Langford originally committed to go to the University of Connecticut, but reopened his recruitment following UConn’s decision to fire assistant coach Glen Miller.

Pipkins Comes to Providence

Just one day before Ashton-Langford’s announcement, the Friars got a commitment from UMass transfer Luwane Pipkins.

He has one year of eligibility left.

“I just want to say thanks to all the coaches that contacted me during this time, but after careful consideration, I have decided to use my last year of eligibility to play for coach Ed Cooley and the Providence Friars,” said Pipkins in a tweet.

In three seasons at UMass, Pipkins averaged 15.7 points per game, along with 3.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds.

This past season, he put up 16 points, 5.2 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game.
