URI Football Drops 2nd Straight Game, Loses to #9 James Madison 48-31

URI football falls to James Madison
The URI Rams fell 48-31 to #9 James Madison on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Rams to 5-5 on the season, while James Madison improves to 7-3.

With the game tied at seven in the first quarter, James Madison quarterback Ben DiNucci connected with Mack Cullen on a three-yard touchdown pass to give them 14-7 lead after the extra point.

James Madison would extend their lead in the second quarter when DiNucci hit Riley Stapleton on an eight-yard touchdown pass to put them up 21-7 after the extra point.

After URI’s JaJuan Lawson cut it to a one-score game, 21-14, following a one-yard touchdown run, James Madison would get back-to-back field goals from kicker Tyler Gray to take a 27-14 lead into the break.

Lawson finished the game completing 22 passes for 272 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

The Rams opened the second half with a field goal from C.J. Carrick to cut James Madison’s lead to 27-17, before another James Madison touchdown would put them up 34-17 with 8:48 to play in the third quarter.

The Rams would not get closer than ten point the rest of the way as James Madison would cruise to a 48-31 win.

Next Up

URI will close out their season on Saturday, November 17 when they host New Hampshire.

Game time is set for 12 noon.
