URI vs UConn

Saturday’s game between the Rams and Huskies will be the 94th meeting all-time, with UConn leading the series 51-34-8.

However, this will be the first game between the two teams since September of 2009 when the Huskies cruised past URI 52-10.

URI’s last win in the series came in 2000, when they edged the Huskies 26-21.

URI Offense

URI quarterback JaJuan Lawson was named CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week following the game against Albany in which he completed 22 of 28 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns.

It is the second time in his career that he has received the honor. He is just the second player in program history win the award multiple times.

Through the first two weeks of the season, Lawson leads the CAA in passing efficiency (184.5) and touchdown passes (5). He is second in completion percentage (71.4) and third in both passing yards (487) and passing yards per game (243.5).

"JaJuan understands where he's supposed to go with the ball, he knows how to win games and he's settled himself into a very effective performer," said head coach Jim Fleming earlier this week.

Lawson’s main targets are Marven Beauvais, Isaiah Coulter, Aaron Parker, and Tyler Burke.

Parker has caught a pass in each of his previous 20 games.

URI Defense

The Rams defense enters the game having forced and recovered five fumbles so far this season, which is the most in the country.

URI is tied with Richmond at the top of CAA Football in turnover margin with +1.5 per game.

The Rams are number 12 in the country in turnover margin (+3) and turnovers gained (5).

In their last 13 games, URI’s defense has recovered 16 fumbles.

Overall, the Rams defense will be led by Branyan Javier-Castillo and freshman Tyler Wipper.
