Smart Benefits: 2017 - The Year of the Agile Workplace

Many employers have started the year with a new perspective on human resources – one focused on becoming more agile. In a recent study by Deloitte, 9 out of 10 executives ranked building the organization of the future as an important challenge for 2017. And to address it, companies are focusing on several key areas:
  • Talent Acquisition. Employers are starting to move away from standard hiring practices in favor of more innovative, technology-driven solutions such as virtual reality, social networking and predictive analytics. The hope is that these options will help employers transform the early stages of recruitment, and ultimately attract candidates that are a fit.
  • Performance Management. Instead of the traditional annual review, the past five years have witnessed an increase in experimentation with new performance management tools. These systems are designed to give employees real-time feedback and continuous coaching to meet their demands for more timely development opportunities.
  • Leadership Development. Employers increasingly understand that leadership development doesn’t necessarily have to follow a strict hierarchy. As companies employ younger and more diverse workers, they’re embracing new leadership models and training programs to fill their pipelines for future development.
  • People Analytics. To help retain employees, some organizations have begun to use data to improve the employee experience. IBM, for example, uses people analytics to proactively identify the retention risk for employees in key roles. That way, managers can take steps to prevent the loss of top people.
  • Augmented Workforce. Just over forty percent of employers have reported making significant progress in adopting or in fully implementing cognitive technologies. The robots and artificial intelligence systems are being used to improve efficiency, productivity, innovation and cost savings in everything from manufacturing to customer service.

To remain competitive, the key is to keep evolving in 2017, and beyond.
