68-Year-Old Lemonade Truck Driver Assaulted With Hammer in Robbery in Providence

A man in his late 60s operating a frozen lemonade truck in Providence was reportedly attacked and robbed by assailants wielding a baseball bat. 

About Incident

Police were called to Roger Williams Park shortly before 2:30 PM on Saturday for a report of robbery.

The victim - a 68-year-old male - told police he was robbed and assaulted with a hammer by two suspects.

According to police, he said he was operating a New England Lemonade truck near the entrance of the zoo, when two masked individuals came up to the vehicle.

He said one individual came through the front door and the other climbed over the counter demanding money.

The victim said he was struck twice in the stomach with a hammer by one of the assailants. The suspects then fled with several hundred dollars cash. 

Police say the victim was visibly injured; he was transported by Providence Rescue to Rhode Island Hospital. 

Detectives are currently investigating.
