Woman Assaulted in Providence - Hit Over Head With a Bottle on Broadway

A woman was attacked and hit in the head with a beer bottle after she got off a RIPTA bus in the city on Friday. 

 

The victim told police she had taken the bus from Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence and gotten off the bus on Broadway around 5:30 PM.

She said that after getting off the bus, a man who she said may have been drunk or suffering a mental health issue began following her, before hitting her over the head with a beer bottle. 

 

Police say she suffered a head wound and was bleeding when they spoke with her. 

 

The broken bottle could be seen on the ground, according to police. 

 

She said he ran away after assaulting her.
