Woman Assaulted, Robbed of Sneakers in Argument Over $20 at Kennedy Plaza in Providence

A woman was assaulted — and hospitalized — following an argument in Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence on Sunday night. 

As GoLocal has reported, based on the data provided by the City of Providence to GoLocal after an Access to Public Records Act request this summer, Kennedy Plaza continues to be the epicenter of city crime.

Between July 1 and 23, there were eleven assaults at Kennedy Plaza, including one that took place directly across the street next to City Hall.

About Latest Incident

Providence Police responded to Rhode Island Hospital shortly after 10 PM on Sunday for a report of a victim of a robbery. 

The victim — a female in her 40s — said she had been robbed in Kennedy Plaza shortly after 8 PM on Sunday, at the entrance to the bus terminal.

According to the victim, she had gotten into an argument with several individuals over $20, which she said then turned physical.

The victim told police she was punched in the face and fell to the ground, at which time she was robbed of her sneakers. 

Detectives are currenty investigating.
